Amazon Echo Show Review 2026 — Is the Screen Worth It?

Last Updated: May 21, 2026  |  Models reviewed: Echo Show 5, Show 8, Show 10, Show 15
Quick Answer: Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) is the sweet spot — 8" screen, good audio, reasonable price (~$130). Worth buying if: you want to see camera feeds on a screen, video call family, or follow recipe videos. Not worth it over an Echo Dot if you just want voice control.

Echo Show 8 — In Detail

The 8" screen makes camera feeds actually watchable — "Alexa, show me the front door" displays the Ring/Wyze/Arlo feed at a usable size. Video calls with family are comfortable on the 8" display. The improved audio over the Echo Dot is meaningful — stereo speakers with a built-in woofer. Still primarily Alexa — all the smart home control, music, and routine features of any Echo.

Echo Show 10 — The Kitchen Specialist

The Show 10's motorised base rotates the screen to follow you around the kitchen. When you're following a recipe and move to the hob, the screen turns with you. Useful feature, but it costs $250 vs $130 for the Show 8. Only worth the premium if the kitchen use case is important to you.

Is Any Echo Show Worth Buying vs Echo Dot?

The honest answer: only if you'll use the screen. If you want smart home control and music — the Echo Dot at $50 does everything the Show does, at a third of the price. The screen adds real value for: camera feeds, video calls, recipe videos, and showing information at a glance without picking up your phone.

If you can't think of a specific use case for the screen that you'd do weekly — buy the Echo Dot instead.

FAQ

Can the Echo Show camera be used as a security camera?

Not effectively. It supports Drop-In viewing (family members can see your room) but there's no motion detection, no recording, and no continuous monitoring. For security, use a dedicated Ring, Wyze, or Arlo camera and view the feed on the Echo Show.

Do Echo Shows display ads?

Yes — the screensaver shows Amazon product recommendations and Prime Video content. You can pay $5/month for "Lock Screen Content" to remove this, or it can be set to show personal photos from Amazon Photos instead.
